Welcome Dr. Adam Seldis!

Dear Fellow Highland Families,

On behalf of the Highland School Board of Trustees, I am so pleased to welcome Dr. Adam Seldis to our campus as our new Head of School.

Out of 38 candidates initially reviewed, Dr. Seldis impressed us from the first minute with his letter of introduction. “Like Highland, I truly believe in inspiring and developing the whole child within an environment that values student-centered learning, community, and nurture, and I want as many as possible to benefit from the same.”

Born, raised and educated in Great Britain, Adam has also served schools and students in Japan and New Zealand, and brings a wealth of experience to Highland in developing curricula that will sustain Highland’s mission: “to prepare students to thrive, lead and serve in a diverse and dynamic world.” At Yokohama International School, Adam created the Global Citizens Diploma, a curricular element very similar to Highland’s Upper School Certificate programs, designed to enhance development of the whole child with opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. In his most recent post as Head of Upper School at The Steward School in Richmond, Adam helped plan and integrate a new STEM building, developing faculty leadership and curriculum to match the new facility. He also advanced the school’s innovative seminar courses and entrepreneurship program and created a new leadership program.

Adam’s prior experience as a management consultant and corporate accountant enabled him to analyze his schools’ market positions and develop new thinking to market more effectively the schools’ value proposition. He is eager to help Highland enhance our outreach and inform more families about what Highland offers: educational excellence designed to appropriately challenge and nurture each individual student.

Our Board of Trustees has an excellent working relationship with Dr. Seldis and we are eager to actively support his strong leadership and new initiatives as we move forward confidently into Highland School’s second century. Head of School Emeritus Hank Berg built the exceptional school we enjoy today, and Adam Seldis is uniquely qualified to carry forward Mr. Berg’s transformational achievements.
