Why We Give to Highland

WHY WE GIVE TO HIGHLAND

"I give because it enables Highland to offer unique curricula other schools have cut, or never had. My son spoke in front of 200 people AND reporters at age 7. It was nothing new to him - he'd been speaking at assemblies and in plays since Pre-Kindergarten!" HIGHLAND PARENT

Highland provides an exceptional education to exceptional students because parents, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents, and generous businesses contribute in many different ways.
Highland is a non-profit school that follows the classic independent school financial model:  we strive to limit tuition increases by earning the philanthropic support of our families to provide 10-15% of our annual operating costs. We value the many different resources our families can provide, and offer many ways you and every Highland Hawk can do your part.

Give to the Highland Annual Fund

The cornerstone of Highland School's fundraising is the Highland Annual Fund. Unlike tuition payments, contributions to this fund are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Your gifts are spent during the current fiscal year on all the elements required to provide Highland’s unique education to your students:
  • Faculty Compensation - at 75%, the largest and most important part of our budget
  • Program expenses for our Field Studies and Leadership curricula
  • Specialized faculty training for the Learning Center and Personalized Learning Plan
  • instruments, equipment, and supplies for the Fine and Performing Arts and our K-12 Robotics program
  • Science labs and our outdoor education areas in all divisions
  • Coaches, gear, transportation, and facilities maintenance for our competitive Athletics teams for Grades 6 - 12
  • … and so much more.

Get Involved in Our Special Events

Highland's two largest fundraising events of the year are the Auction and the Golf Tournament. Both events are led by parent volunteers. Along with your tax-deductible gifts to the Highland Annual Fund, the proceeds from the Auction and Golf Tournament help fund the 10-15% gap between tuition income and the full cost of providing our students an exceptional education encompassing academics, arts, athletics and a robust character and leadership curriculum.

Commit to Our Faculty Via the Campaign for People Endowment

Highland’s exceptional faculty are the heart and strength of our School. In today’s increasingly competitive environment, retaining and recruiting the best educators and fully supporting their work requires a reliable funding source that is immune from the ups and downs of global economic conditions. The goal of The Campaign for People is to double Highland School’s Endowment by 2028 - our 100th Anniversary - to provide sustainable funding for faculty compensation, professional development, our signature Field Studies and Character & Leadership Curriculum, and scholarships for exceptional students.

Leadership Giving at Highland

The Highland School Board of Trustees hosts a Leadership Reception each year to honor all those who donate $1,000 or more in financial contributions annually. The generosity of our leadership donors throughout the School’s nearly 100 years has made possible the robust curriculum and state-of-the-art facilities our students enjoy today.
