Old Town Warrenton Moves for Mental Health: Highland School and MHA Celebrate Inaugural 5k Success

Communications Department
On Saturday, May 9th, the historic streets of Old Town Warrenton were transformed into a vibrant hub of energy and purpose for the 1st Annual Move for Mental Health 5k. While the morning skies were overcast, the mood on the ground was anything but gray. The community turned out in force, proving that the spirit of wellness and connection shines brightest when we come together for a common cause.

The inaugural event was a resounding success, serving as a powerful fundraiser for both wellness programs at Highland School and vital community initiatives led by the Mental Health Association of Fauquier (MHA).

The day offered far more than just a traditional race. After the 5k participants crossed the finish line, the energy reached a fever pitch for the Kids Dash, where the youngest members of our community showcased their speed and enthusiasm. Throughout the morning, Old Town Warrenton buzzed with life as families explored a variety of local vendors and food trucks.

The event village was a whirlwind of activity, where children proudly showed off intricate face painting and gathered at arts and crafts stations to create their own masterpieces. Between the spirited raffle drawing and the various wellness-focused booths, the morning felt less like a competition and more like a massive community hug. Every activity served as a reminder that mental health is nurtured through joy, creativity, and shared experiences.

This event would not have been possible without the incredible support of our sponsors. Their investment in the mental well-being of our students and the broader Fauquier community is truly inspiring.

A special and heartfelt thank you goes to our Presenting Sponsor, Ashwell & Ashwell. Your leadership and dedication to this cause set the pace for a successful debut year. We also extend our gratitude to all our corporate and local sponsors who stepped up to make this vision a reality.

The funds raised from the Move for Mental Health 5k will go directly toward enhancing student wellness programs and supporting MHA’s mission to provide mental health education and advocacy across the region.
Thank you to everyone who ran, walked, volunteered, and cheered. You didn’t just move your feet—you moved the needle on mental health awareness. We are already looking forward to seeing that same bright energy back on the starting line next year!
