Where students find their voice

Every child has something to say. In Highland's Early Childhood program, children from Pre-K 2/3 through Pre-K 4/5 discover how to say it with paint, with song, with stories, and with their whole bodies. Creative expression isn't a special event here. It's woven into every day, giving our youngest learners the confidence to share ideas long before they can write them down.

Art every single day

Making is thinking. Children create with paint, materials, and their own two hands right in the classroom, every day. They cut, sort, color, and build, which strengthens fine motor skills while they explore what they can imagine. There's no wrong way to make something at Highland. There's only the joy of trying.

Music that moves

Songs teach more than melodies. With our dedicated music specialist, children sing, move, and step into dramatization. They're learning to listen, take turns, and express themselves as part of a group. Music builds language, rhythm, and memory, turning a shy first attempt into a confident performance.

Language through stories and song

New words feel like play when they arrive through song. Children discover Spanish with a specialist through stories, songs, and dramatization. They visit the library each week to fall in love with books. Along the way, they build the language skills and the curiosity that carry into other subjects.

Here's how children explore language and expression:

  • Spanish through songs, storytelling, and playful dramatization.
  • Library visits that spark a lifelong love of reading.
  • Music and movement that build rhythm, memory, and vocabulary.
  • Daily classroom art that gives every idea a way out.

Why it matters

The arts at Highland aren't about producing perfect work. They're about giving children the confidence to try, the joy of creating alongside others, and the early voice to share what they see and feel. That courage to express becomes the foundation for the confidence to lead, and it all starts here, with a paintbrush, a song, and a story.
