About

Our Mission

The Journey Matters

A mission statement is easy to write. It's harder to live. At Highland, we don't measure success by how fast students collect credentials. We measure it by who they become along the way, how they think, how they respond to challenge, and how they show up for others.
That's why we challenge students everywhere. In demanding academics. On the stage and the field. In the woods, the bay, and every space beyond the classroom walls. We push them to stretch, then stand beside them while they do.

Because the goal isn't just a strong transcript. It's a student who walks into the next room, and the one after that, ready to thrive, lead, and serve.

Below is the promise we make to every family:

Our Mission

Highland School prepares students to thrive, lead and serve in a diverse and dynamic world, developing essential skills and character by challenging them with a demanding academic and co-curricular program.
.

You can see our Mission around the Highland campus every day. You see it in a sixth grader testing stream water for real environmental research. In an Upper School student designing an independent study because a course they need doesn't exist yet. In a kindergarten student standing up to share an idea with their classmates and teachers. In a senior who does the right thing when no one is watching.

Highland's mission isn't a framed document on a wall. It's a standard held every day, in every classroom, on every field, and in every interaction between a student and the adult who knows them by name.
.

Inclusivity at Highland

Highland School is committed to a culture of inclusion that affirms the innate dignity and worth of every individual as an essential aspect of our educational mission. The most enduring learning takes place in an environment where every member of the community feels safe, respected, known, trusted, and valued.

We are deeply enriched by sharing different perspectives, traditions, and backgrounds. It is by including everyone in conversations and all areas of school life that we fully prepare students for engaged citizenship and compassionate leadership.
