Community

Community at Highland

A great school isn't a building. It's a community, and Highland has been building ours since 1928.

From the first day of Pre-K to the last walk across the graduation stage, no one at Highland goes it alone. Students are known by name. Families sit shoulder to shoulder at games and performances. Teachers, parents, grandparents, and alumni all show up for the same kids. That's not an accident. It's the way Highland was designed from the very beginning.

Community isn't a perk. It's the point

Belonging doesn't happen by chance. It's built on purpose.

Since our founding, Highland families have shaped this school through their time, their talent, and their generosity. That participation does more than fund programs or fill events. It creates the community your child grows up in. It creates a place where people look out for each other and celebrate each other's kids. When you join Highland, you don't just enroll a student. You join a family.

Ways to connect

There's no single way to belong here. There are many, and there's room for everyone.

List of 5 items.

  • Volunteer

Read with a kindergartner. Cheer at a game. Mentor a robotics team. Share a professional skill. Volunteer roles range from a few hours a year to a weekly shift, and every one strengthens the community. You bring the time and talent. Highland brings the opportunity. Visit our Volunteer page to learn more.
  • Give Back

Contributions from families, alumni, grandparents, and local businesses close the gap between tuition and the full cost of a Highland education. The Annual Fund fuels the classrooms, the arts, Field Studies, and the athletics that make this school distinct. Your impact is felt this year and for these students. • Join Highland's Parents Association

The Parents Association is the heart of family life at Highland. Class representatives connect families, share what matters, and help new parents feel at home fast. It's the easiest way to find your people and jump in.
  • Attend our Special Events

The best moments happen when everyone shows up. The Highland Auction turns a spring evening into the community's biggest celebration. The Highland Classic Golf Tournament brings families and alumni together each fall. And Grandparents Day fills campus with the people who love our students most. These aren't just fundraisers. They're where friendships form. Click here to learn more about the special events we host at Highland and in our community.
  • Become a Highland Hero

Highland Heroes are local businesses large and small who make an annual financial gift to Highland School. The benefits provided give your business maximum visibility among and personal engagement with a broad audience of the Piedmont region’s most involved families and community leaders.  Click here to learn more about becoming a part of our Highland Hero program.

Come for the School. Stay for the community

The best part of Highland isn't a single program. It's the people.

Volunteer parents make friends among fellow families and faculty. Grandparents watch their grandchildren perform and glow with pride. Alumni come back year after year because this place shaped who they became. Involvement here isn't an obligation. It's a joy — and it's how families discover the true heart of the school.

That connection starts long before your child's first day. It starts the moment you decide to see it for yourself.
