Special events at Highland

The best moments happen when everyone shows up.

A school year is full of days that blur together. But a few stand apart. The nights families dress up, the mornings campus fills with cheering, the afternoons grandparents beam from the front row. These are Highland's special events. They aren't just fundraisers or dates on a calendar. They're where a community becomes a community.

Events aren't extras. They're how we belong

Belonging doesn't happen by chance. It's built, one shared moment at a time.

You could stay home. You could skip the game, the gala, the celebration. Or you could show up and discover that the families who show up are the ones who feel most at home here. They meet their closest friends over a shared table. They cheer beside parents they'd never otherwise meet. They watch each other's kids grow up. Since 1928, Highland has built its culture the same way: not through policy, but through the people who choose to gather.

Show up once, and you'll understand. These events are the heartbeat of the school.

Some of the events that bring us together

Every event has a purpose. Every one strengthens the community in its own way. Click on the expanding boxes below to lean more about some of the events that take place throughout the academic year:

List of 7 items.

  • The Highland Auction

Spring's biggest night. Families, faculty, and friends gather for an evening of celebration that raises critical funds and turns acquaintances into friends.
  • The Highland Classic Golf Tournament

A fall tradition on the green. Parents, alumni, and local partners spend a day competing, connecting, and giving back to the school they love.
  • Grandparents and Special Friends Day

Campus fills with the people who love our students most. Grandparents step into classrooms, watch performances, and see firsthand the place where their grandchildren grow.
  • The MOVE For Mental Health 5K

Highland's newest tradition sees us working hand in hand with the Mental Health Association of Fauquier and community partners to raise funds for mental health and wellness programs.

This fun 5K run event takes place in Old Town Warrenton, right across the street where our school began nearly a century ago. Our founders would be so proud of what their school has become!
  • Homecoming

It's great when our Hawks come home. Homecoming is our annual opportunity for alumni to return to campus, for families to attend athletic events, and for generations of Highland students and families to celebrate what it means to belong here.
  • Community Gatherings and Celebrations

The everyday magic. Welcoming events across campus, seasonal traditions, and family gatherings throughout the year keep Highland connected from the first day to the last. These events include divisional awards events, weekly assemblies in the Lower School, class plays, Parents Association events, and many others!

Different events. One purpose. Bringing the community together.
  • Athletic Events and Theater Productions

Full stands and packed theaters make great theater. Our athletes compete harder and the Highland Players shine brighter when the community shows up to cheer them on.

Come for the event. Stay for the community

The best part of any Highland event isn't the program. It's the people standing and sitting alongside you.

Events help new families find their footing. Longtime parents reconnect. Alumni remember why this place shaped them. Grandparents glow with pride. Every event is an invitation to belong, to contribute, and to become part of something that has lasted for a century.

That connection starts the moment you walk in the door.
