In Highland's Early Childhood program, curiosity is more than exploration. It is the foundation for how children learn to think. Our youngest students are trusted with real work, observing nature during outdoor discovery, expressing ideas through art and storytelling, and learning to collaborate with purpose. This is where the skills to thrive begin.

Journeys start with wonder

Learning starts with curiosity, not worksheets. Children build early reading through phonemic awareness and the multi-sensory IMSE approach, practice writing with Handwriting Without Tears, and explore numbers at hands-on math centers. Our Project Approach ties it together, so children don't absorb ideas, they investigate them. Every day, they learn to think.

Where children find their voice

Every idea deserves a way out. Children create with paint and materials in the classroom daily, sing and move with the music specialist, and discover Spanish through songs, stories, and dramatization. Expression isn't a subject here. It's how they make sense of the world.

Play is the foundation of learning

Big movement builds big confidence. Through daily recess, outdoor play, and time with our Physical Education specialists, children run, climb, and stretch their growing bodies. They head outside to our outdoor classroom and learn actively with our partners at the Clifton Institute, where the whole world becomes a classroom. Every first try counts.

Movement and Play in Early Childhood

Support starts early

Every child grows at their own pace, and that's exactly how it should be. Certified support teachers, an occupational therapist, and a speech language pathologist work alongside classroom teachers to meet each child where they are. Support here isn't an exception. It's part of how we know every learner.
