Doug served on Highland’s Board previously when his children were students in the Lower School. Fast forward almost 50 years and he returns with extensive non-profit experience in the Warrenton/Fauquier area. Doug came to Warrenton in 1977 as Director of an international project of The George Washington University based at Airlie. He continued on as Director of the Airlie Foundation where he ran the conference center and managed the extensive estate properties and farm.
Following his years at Airlie, Doug joined the Piedmont Environmental Council as Vice President with responsibilities for the advancement program of the organization. As an active member of the community, Doug has served on the boards of the Fauquier Hospital, the Fauquier Hospital Foundation, The Fauquier Bank, the Bluemont Concert Series and the Fauquier Community Theatre, among others. He currently serves as the President of the Clifton Institute.
Doug graduated from Drake University with a degree in Journalism and served in the Peace Corps following college. He continued to serve overseas, working for the United States Agency for International Development before coming to Virginia.
