Meet Our Faculty
Ms. Jane Banse
Janie Banse, Highland’s teacher librarian, has a passion for developing readers and critical thinkers who use technology to support their learning. She encourages students to develop life-long reading habits and become skillful seekers of information, utilizing those strengths to connect with new ideas and with others.
Janie has a BA from Duke University and an MLIS from the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to her work in education, she worked in public programs for the Folger Shakespeare Library and as Managing Editor for the Historic Hawai’i Foundation. More recently, she has worked in K-12 public schools in Pittsburgh, PA as well as at The Hill School and Middleburg Academy.
Locally, she has volunteered as a puppy raiser for Canine Companions for Independence, raising a labrador puppy who became a service dog for a child in Boston, MA. She is also serves on the Outreach Committee at Trinity Episcopal Church, Upperville, where her husband Rob is the Rector. Together they have three children, three dogs, and a farm in Delaplane, VA. Janie is also an avid reader, runner, gardener and sometime cyclist.
