Meet Our Faculty
Ms. Laura DeBoer
Laura teaches three-dimensional art classes in the Upper School: all levels of ceramics, and sculpture and AP 3D Design. She is a life-long resident of Madison County and loves living in the mountains. She has a BA in Studio Art from Roanoke College, with a concentration in ceramics and a minor in Secondary Education. Her husband, Chris, is also from Madison, and they are raising their son, Sam, on Laura’s family’s Century Farm.
She values how Highland has let her balance her time between teaching and working as a potter. “Working at Highland for the last ten years has helped me realize how much I love working with students this age. It is so rewarding to watch kids discover a love for something they knew nothing about only a few months before. They come up with so many amazing ideas, which helps me grow both as a teacher and an artist from year to year.” Recently Laura has been able to build a home studio and make more of her living from selling her artwork.
