The Campaign for Highland School

The Campaign for Highland School serves as the umbrella for all giving - incorporating the Annual Fund, the Capital Fund and the Endowment. The Annual Fund will remain the cornerstone of regular philanthropic giving at Highland and is used to supplement tuition and support ongoing operations. Support is also needed for Capital efforts that expand our facilities and programs, and Endowment gifts to ensure that we provide for the long-term financial stability of our school. The different ways of supporting the school all help enhance the Highland experience for students, faculty, families and the community.

The Campaign for Highland School will provide the financial resources needed to undertake our ambitious program and secure our future. Please contact the school for more information on how you can support the Campaign for Highland School - for our children, and for the children who will follow them.

Example #1
Donor wants to gift a lump sum to the school with no preference as to allocation.

Mr. and Mrs. John Q. Donor have gifted $2,500 a year for the past three years to the Annual Fund. In response to being solicited, they pledge a total of $50,000 to Highland, to be paid in annual installments of $10,000 each, over a five-year period. Mr. and Mrs. Donor state that it doesn't matter how their pledge is allocated. With Mr. and Mrs. Donor's blessing, the school makes the decision to disburse the pledge accordingly: $25,000 for the Annual Fund; $25,000 to Campaign for Highland School. This plan effectively allows Mr. and Mrs. Donor to continue and even increase their annual support while at the same time making a gift to the Campaign for Highland.

Example #2
Donor pledges to both the Annual Fund and the Campaign for Highland School

Mr. and Mrs. John Q. Donor have been making a $5,000 contribution to the Highland Annual Fund for the past three years. They are asked to continue their current level of support, and, in addition, make a pledge of $100,000 to the Campaign for Highland payable over the next three to five years. They agree to this proposal. Their total commitment to Highland is $125,000 with installments of $25,000 payable over a five year period, of which $5,000 is credited to the Annual Fund and $20,000 to the Campaign.

Example #3
Donor has supported special capital fund-raising projects but has never supported Highland's Annual Fund

Mr. and Mrs. John Q. Donor have a history of supporting special projects at Highland but have never considered the Annual Fund to be a priority. They have gifted $250,000 for the Performing Arts Center and made another gift of $100,000 to the school's endowment. After hearing a presentation, they agree to make a pledge of $500,000 to the Campaign for Highland and pledge an additional $50,000 to the Annual Fund payable over a five year period with annual installments of $110,000 of which $100,000 is allocated for the campaign and $10,000 for the Annual Fund.

Example #4
Donor proposes a switch from the Annual Fund to the Campaign for Highland School

Mr. and Mrs. John Q. Donor have been consistently contributing $1,000 to the Highland Annual Fund. They have been steady donors to Highland's Annual Fund. During discussions regarding their support, Mr. and Mrs. Donor state that they are willing to pledge $5,000 over the next five years to the Campaign for Highland but will not support the Annual Fund during this time. In this case, it would be more beneficial to the school that they continue and even increase their support to the Annual Fund rather than switch it.
