William A. Hazel Family
Library
Highland School's William A. Hazel Family Library
was created to serve the needs of Highland students in Grades
9 through 12, along with the faculty, staff, and parents
of Highland. It was a large part of a major construction
project and opened for use Feb. 1, 2001. The 5,500 sq. ft.
Library has over 7,500 volumes. This includes reference,
fiction, multimedia, and archival documents of the school.
The library also includes eight computer terminals and a
color printer for student use.
Brooke's Books
This is a collection you have to see! These books and books
on tape or CD's, are for the entire Highland community -
students, faculty, staff, and parents. Brooke's Books is
a memorial established for Brooke Tennyson Umbel, a Highland
student and avid reader who passed away in 1998 at age 17.
It is an integral part of the Highland Upper School Library,
offering hundreds of recommended books. Every book in the
Brooke's Books section was recommended by the students and
is someone's all time favorite book or one that has affected
their lives in a significant way. The back of each book
has a plate that tells who recommended the book and why.
This collection includes everything from Dr. Seuss to Shakespeare.
Every person affiliated with Highland should have a recommendation
in this wonderful collection. You can recommend a book by
contacting Carla Tapp, Upper School Librarian, at 540.878.2700,
ext. 1004 or mailing your suggestion to Brooke's Books,
P.O. Box 336, Warrenton, VA 20186. Please tell why and how
the book has affected you. For more information about Brooke's
Books, please contact Carla Tapp at 540.878.2700, ext. 1004.
