Highland
School makes a commitment to experiential learning to build
community in the school. The program was formed to provide
structure and resources for a variety of programs at Highland
School. The mission of the program is to strengthen experiential
learning throughout the school curriculum and to conduct
specific programs. Existing programs include Field
Studies, the Service Program and
Community Projects/Work Program.
Program
Goals:
- Provide experiential learning opportunity for
grades K-12 and adults
- Promote selflessness, service to others, cooperation,
and empathy
- Develop confidence and leadership
- Develop aesthetic and spiritual understanding
- Develop awareness and a sense of stewardship of
natural resources
- Expand the relationships between members of Highland
community
- Allow for the study of science, humanities and
arts in field settings
- Facilitate interdisciplinary study
- Provide alternative athletic activities
- Offer wilderness experiences
