Whitewater Rafting
Summer
may be officially over, but the rivers' are still running. Start off the
school year with a wild rafting trip down the famous Middle Yough. A class
III-IV river, this stretch winds and splashes its way through the scenic
Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania. This is a 4-6 hour trip, where we will
stop mid-way to have lunch at Picnic Rock. Here you can jump into the calm
pool of water and swim while your heart is still slowing from the rapids

Dogsledding
The exciting dog sledding trip is back! Highland’s annual Maine
adventure is sure to be a hit again this year. Spend three days mushing
with the huskies and winter camping deep in the Maine woods. This is truly
a once-in-a-lifetime experience, as you bask under the evening stars while
warming over a campfire on the frozen lake. This trip also includes backcountry
skiing to and from your campsite, allowing you time to really enjoy the
scenery.

West Virginia Skiing
Enjoy
two days of skiing in beautiful Canaan Valley. On Day One we will experience
“free heel” skiing in the backcountry. This is an awesome
way to view the valley and learn the rhythm of backcountry skiing. On
Day Two we will head next door to Canaan Valley ski resort for some exciting
alpine skiing.
We will also be heading out for two evenings of night skiing
this winter! Look for more information to be announced on these
night-time attack on the slope.

Rio Grande Canoeing
This
spring break, a group from Highland will travel to Big Bend National Park
in Texas to canoe the Rio
Grande River and explore desert ecology. The trip is open to
any student in grades 9-12 regardless of canoeing or camping experience.
The program includes instruction in canoeing and wilderness travel skills,
as well as, minimum impact camping techniques.
The expedition will be lead by Hank Berg, who holds a
Masters Degree in Arid Land Studies from Texas Tech University and has run
15 trips on the Rio Grande and Peter Dunigan, a professional
whitewater guide with a biology degree from Colorado College. Lynda
Hoag, technology coordinator, and Megan Catalfamo,
Director of Experiential and Service Learning, will also be trip leaders.

Rock Climbing
School
is out! This trip went well in 2007, and we’re game to do it again.
Celebrate the end of the school year with your friends comfortably “car
camping” at Bears Den campground. From there we will set out on a
2 mile hike of the Appalachian Trail to our rock climbing destination of
Crescent Rocks. Here we will eat lunch and climb the cliffs the entire afternoon.
A fun way to end the school year.
