Volunteer Opportunities

There are a myriad of opportunities to get involved at Highland. Whether you're a parent, grandparent, alumni, parent of alumni, or friend, we welcome your help in building a stronger community for our children. If you're interested in volunteering for any of these events, please click here.

Monday Lunch Program
This is a great way to get to know the students and teachers, and see your child at school! Deliver lunches to PK-4 classrooms and serve lunches to middle and upper school students. Approximately one hour each Monday (excluding school holidays).

Friday Lunch Program
This is a great way to get to know the students and teachers, and see your child at school! Deliver lunches to PK-4 classrooms and serve lunches to middle and upper school students. Approximately one hour each Friday (excluding school holidays).

Hawk's Nest
Work in the school store located across from the Lower/Middle School office. The Hawk's Nest sells various school supplies, Highland novelties, and athletic wear. Cashiers are needed Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 7:45-9:15a.m.

Athletic Boosters
Help raise funds and volunteer during Upper school sports events. Meetings are held the first Friday of each month during the school year at 8:30 a.m. in the Center for the Arts.

Bonus Programs
Count labels, bundle and mail packages to participating programs. Approximately 2-3 hours per month.

Parent Buddy Readers
Help K-2 students become lifelong readers. Approximately 30-45 minutes per week.

Friends of the Center for the Arts
Volunteer opportunities may include such things as ushering evening events and concessions.

Picture Day
Assist with making sure all students have forms, and that each class is notified of picture time. Tuesday, September 22, 8am -12 pm

Senior College Planning Night
Help with refreshments. Wednesday, September 23, 2009, 7 pm

Homecoming Luncheon - Saturday, October 3, 2009
Volunteer as needed to work the buffet table, set up and clean up of event.

Innisbrook Gift Wrap Sale
Assist in the fundraiser by sorting orders and distributing items to students at dismissal.

Original Art
With the help of the art department, students in grades PK-8 submit artwork to be turned into journals, sweatshirts, tote bags, pillow cases, mugs and other gift items. Volunteers are needed during the first and last weeks of October and in early December to help process orders and distribute the finished products. Approximately one hour time commitment.

Highland School Auction - Saturday, November 21, 2009
Volunteer to help with the school's biggest fundraiser of the year. The Auction has moved back to the fall and will have a unique format this year. There are big and small ways to help on the various committees: acquisitions, raffle, decorations, database, special projects, back room, class gifts and promotions. Bring your special talents and get involved.

Annual Fund
Volunteer to be a class captain on the Annual Fund Cabinet or help with administrative tasks. The annual fund is the cornerstone of giving for Highland School.

Head Start/Bright Stars Gift Book Program
Highland students donate books each year to children in this important Fauquier County early childhood education program. The books are presented when these children visit Highland and watch a rehearsal of the Lower School Holiday Program in December. Help wrap the books to give each child.

Exam Bagels
Help serve bagels and juice to Middle and Upper School students during exam week. Approximately 1-2 hours per morning. Winter: December 14-18 (grades 7-12) and/or Spring: May 26 (grade 8 only), May 27, 28, June 1, June 2 (grades 7-11)

Library Advocates
Various volunteer opportunities that support the library including shelving books and helping with library fundraisers.

Admissions
Help with light office duties including projects that may be completed at home. Escort families to Gesell screenings and/or attend Open Houses.

Golf Tournament
Help plan our annual golf tournament, held on Monday, May 17, 2010, or volunteer to help that day.
