Q. What's the difference between the Annual Fund and the Campaign for Highland?

A. Unlike the Annual Fund which supports the School's ongoing operating needs, the Campaign for Highland supports "bricks and mortar" projects and endowment, identified in the Schoo's long-range plan. Gifts to the Campaign for Highland usually constitute an extra effort on the part of the donor, over and above an annual gift.

Phase One of the Campaign for Highland is a $16,000,000 bricks and mortar as well endowment initiative that was created as the result of a diligent strategic planning process undertaken by the Board of Trustees and members of the School administration. The Campaign is designed to meet the School's current and future programmatic needs and to upgrade the physical plant.

To date, contributions and pledges to the Campaign for Highland total $14,200,000 toward the construction of a new Lower School Building, an Upper School Humanities and Instructional Technology Wing, an all-weather synthetic turf field and the Class of 2008 Courtyard contiguous to the Rice Theater. Also included in this amount raised is $2,000,000 pledged to the School's endowment.

Highland School Announces The W.R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust Matching Grant

In July of 2009 the W.R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust awarded Highland School a $500,000 1:1 matching grant to establish a Teaching and Learning Center Endowment. In order to receive the benefit of these funds Highland must raise an additional $500,000 by December 31, 2010.

How can you help?

By making a contribution to The Teaching and Learning Center Endowment you will effectively double your contribution. For every dollar you give one dollar will be matched by the Trust until the full $500,000 grant has been received by the School.

For information about how you can assist with the matching grant or for a tour of Highland's new facilities please email Gordon Oliver in the Office of Advancement at goliver@highlandschool.org or call 540-878-2790.
