Learning, No Boundaries

Character and Leadership

Highland believes that leadership is not the responsibility of a few but the calling of all. We define leadership broadly to encourage all students to identify and pursue leadership opportunities that relate to their individual strengths and interests. The school provides a variety of leadership opportunities and a safe environment in which to do so. We want our students to be leaders who embrace the values of service, community, altruism, respect for others, inclusiveness and generosity of spirit. Opportunities to grow personally, as well as intellectually, are purposefully facilitated throughout all divisions of the school. Students are encouraged to step outside their comfort zone in order to strengthen their abilities to lead. In addition, they are guided by mentors to seek an avocation, excel at it, and establish themselves as leaders in that arena. These programs are fully summarized in the Character and Leadership section.
