Learning, No Boundaries

Technology

A robust hardware and support infrastructure is a necessary underpinning to all our technology initiatives, along with effective administrative and communication systems. With that foundation in place the goal is to have a technology program that supports the school’s mission to provide students with the necessary skills and character to meet the challenges of the 21st Century.  As outlined by the International Society for Technology in Education these skills include:

•             Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to learn

•             Collaboration, communication, and presentation

•             Critical thinking and problem solving

•             Media/information literacy and research

•             Creativity and innovation

•             Digital citizenship and ethics

•             Utilizing technology as a tool

Technology is a facilitator of the learning process rather than a pursuit in itself.  The school integrates technology into the classroom through all curriculum areas to support academic learning. Use of technology also supports differentiated learning, aids students with learning disabilities, and enhances experiential learning modalities. As educational technology matures, students will naturally gravitate to a more active learning style characterized by personal investigation and outcome and project-based initiatives. Finally, the curriculum focuses on bigger issues such as the role, implications, and effects of technology in society; as well as what knowledge and habits of mind are needed to most effectively function in a technologically advanced world.
