Middle School

Learning, No Boundaries
Middle School: Grades 7 and 8
Seventh and eighth graders begin their morning with a short advisory meeting and meet for advisory activities once a week. They share a common schedule with eight rotating classes of 45 minutes each. Seventh graders have four universal core classes (Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science with a lab class), as well as a Latin requirement, and a choice between French and Spanish. All language classes for Grade 7 meet four times a week. Eighth grade students choose between the two foreign languages and one classical language and have that language every day. Therefore, they have five core classes. Eighth graders take an additional writing workshop once a week.
Students are grouped in three levels of mathematics by developmental readiness to accommodate individual learning styles and needs, with the top two levels of Grade 8 math taking high school level algebra. They are also grouped in world languages to accommodate their ability level and learning style, with all eighth graders taking a high school credit of language. In addition to core classes, Grades 7 and 8 choose between performing and fine art electives each semester. Computer class is taught two days a week for both grades. The school day ends with an hour of either competitive sports practice or a non-competitive life-long fitness class.
